From Babies to Everything in Be Tween

Rudeness during childhood leads to rudeness during adulthood, and bad manners in the work place can affect job security. A recent survey on rudeness says men are seven times more likely to be rude or insensitive to co-workers, and researchers add that, while both men and women endure rudeness equally, men instigate rudeness 70 percent of the time.

“In this era of take-out food and dress-down Fridays, our children are learning that perhaps good manners don’t really matter,” warns Lynda White of Texas Etiquette.

She adds that good manners begin at home. “As parents we should practice what we preach. Have at least one meal together every week where the children (girls and boys) set the table to practice learning which side of the plate the forks and knives are placed. When you go to church on Sundays, is everyone dressed appropriately? Are “please” and “thank you” words that are regularly spoken in your house?
