Youth Education: Mentorship Program in Partnership with Volunteers of America Texas

In 2012, the Texas Rangers Baseball Foundation continued its Mentorship Program with Diamond-Hill Jarvis High School in the Fort Worth Independent School District. The mentors and students met a couple of times each month and also attended Rangers games. Topics for these sessions include inverviewing, applying for jobs, financial literacy, the importance of commmunity service, etiquette, goal setting, healthy living, and more.

Youth in Crisis: Texas Rangers Summer Academy

Presented by Garth Brooks’ and Troy Aikman’s Teammates for Kids Foundation

Thirteen years ago the Foundation began the Texas Rangers Summer Academy for children from the Lena Pope Home. The purpose of the Summer Academy is to not only give campers the opportunity to collect new experiences but also help reduce the educational loss many kids face in the summer months when school is out.

Scholarships

In 2012 the Texas Rangers Foundation provided over $120,000 in college scholarships.

Richard Green Scholars:
In honor of former Arlington Mayor Richard Greene, who served during the planning and opening of the ballpark, the Foundation has pledged $1 million in scholarship funding over 20 years. Each year, six juniors in the Arlington Independent School District are selected to participate in six-week internships during their senior year of high school. Upon graduation, they are rewarded with a $10,000 scholarship. In 2010, the University of Texas – Arlington committed to providing full tuition scholarships to any Richard Greene Scholar who chooses to attend the university.

Other Scholarship Programs:

  • Johnny Oates Scholarships:
    Awarded to 8 employees or children of employees of Sportservice or the Texas Rangers. Since its inception in 1992, more than 238 scholarships have beeen awarded.
  • Mark Holtz Scholarships:
    Awarded to students at TCU and UT-Arlington studying sports broadcasting.
  • Nolan Ryan Scholarships:
    Awarded to one female and one male student-athlete at Alvin High School.
