LAMPASAS — Over 200 women from around Lampasas came together Thursday evening to talk and learn about empowerment, spend time with old friends and make new ones at the third annual Lampasas Women’s Expo.

The event was started with the idea to bring women together in a venue where education, services and fun were aimed specifically at women, said Tina Loeffler, a member of the Lampasas Chamber of Commerce’s expo committee and one of those who came up with the original idea.

The theme for this year was a “New You.” Door prizes included car, yard and personal makeovers.

The guest speaker for the evening was Jerri Grant, a motivational speaker from Dallas who said what she wanted women to take away from the event was the ability to self-reflect and self-encourage instead of relying on others for their self-worth.

“As women, we give and give and give, and sometimes end up empty,” she said. “What will it take to get them to pull that dream out of the closet? To write that book, to write that song, so when they leave this earth they are fulfilled,” she said.

Grant-Robertson also was selling and signing copies of her new book, “W.I.N.E. for the Mind – Wisdom Inspired Notable Expressions.”

Cynthia Kirby of Lometa said she came out to the expo to see what it was about, and she was glad she did.

Kirby and her tablemate Janet Melton, the public speaking and debate teacher at Lampasas High School, said part of the fun was meeting new people and seeing old friends.
